GENERAL SANTOS CITY — September 15, 2026 — Most parts of Mindanao will experience partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with rain showers and thunderstorms over the next 24 hours, with the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warning that severe thunderstorms could trigger flooding and landslides in vulnerable areas.
In its Regional Weather Forecast for Mindanao (MINPRSD) issued at 5:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 15, PAGASA said the entire Mindanao region is expected to experience isolated to scattered rain showers, lightning and thunderstorms associated with localized thunderstorms.
The forecast is valid from 5:00 a.m. September 15 until 5:00 a.m. September 16, 2026.
PAGASA said the occurrence of severe thunderstorms could bring periods of intense rainfall, increasing the possibility of flash floods and rain-induced landslides, particularly in areas prone to flooding, steep terrain and other rain-related hazards.
Residents, motorists and communities in vulnerable locations were urged to remain alert, particularly during periods of heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning.
Widespread thunderstorms possible across Mindanao
The weather disturbance is not expected to be confined to a particular part of the island, with PAGASA forecasting similar conditions across the Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, SOCCSKSARGEN, Caraga and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
In the Zamboanga Peninsula, Zamboanga City is forecast to experience partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with rain showers or thunderstorms, with temperatures ranging from 23°C to 33°C during the forecast period.
Zamboanga del Norte may record temperatures of 25°C to 34°C, while Zamboanga del Sur and Zamboanga Sibugay are expected to experience temperatures between 23°C and 32°C.
Isabela City is forecast to have temperatures ranging from 24°C to 33°C.
Across Northern Mindanao, Bukidnon may experience temperatures between 20°C and 32°C, while Camiguin is forecast at 24°C to 33°C.
Lanao del Norte may see temperatures from 23°C to 33°C, while Misamis Occidental and Misamis Oriental are expected to range from 23°C to 32°C and 24°C to 33°C, respectively.
Davao Region to remain unsettled
Similar weather conditions are expected throughout the Davao Region, where rain showers and thunderstorms may occur at various times.
Metro Davao is forecast to experience temperatures between 24°C and 34°C.
Davao del Norte and Davao del Sur are likewise expected to reach highs of 34°C, with minimum temperatures of 23°C.
Davao Oriental is forecast to experience temperatures ranging from 23°C to 33°C.
For the remaining areas of the Davao Region covered by the previous 5:00 p.m. September 14 forecast, Davao de Oro is expected to reach 34°C, while Davao Occidental may range from 23°C to 32°C.
SOCCSKSARGEN and Caraga also face thunderstorms
In SOCCSKSARGEN, North Cotabato is forecast to experience temperatures of 23°C to 32°C, while South Cotabato and Sultan Kudarat are expected to range from 23°C to 32°C.
Sarangani may experience temperatures between 24°C and 32°C.
Meanwhile, Caraga is also expected to experience partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with rain showers or thunderstorms.
Agusan del Norte may record temperatures of 25°C to 34°C, while Agusan del Sur is forecast at 24°C to 34°C.
Surigao del Norte is expected to range from 26°C to 34°C, while Surigao del Sur may experience temperatures between 25°C and 35°C.
Dinagat Islands is forecast to have temperatures ranging from 26°C to 34°C.
BARMM areas also under rainy and stormy conditions
In the BARMM, Cotabato City is forecast to experience temperatures of 25°C to 33°C, while Basilan may range from 25°C to 33°C.
Lanao del Sur is expected to have relatively cooler conditions, with temperatures between 22°C and 31°C.
Sulu is forecast at 25°C to 34°C, while Tawi-Tawi may experience temperatures from 26°C to 34°C.
Maguindanao del Norte is expected to range from 24°C to 34°C, while Maguindanao del Sur may reach 35°C, with a forecast minimum temperature of 25°C.
Light to moderate winds, slight to moderate seas
PAGASA said winds across Mindanao will generally be light to moderate, coming from the southwest to west.
For coastal areas covered by the forecast, sea conditions are expected to range from slight to moderate, with wave heights generally between 0.6 and 2.5 meters.
The combination of thunderstorms and changing weather conditions may nevertheless create locally hazardous conditions for small boats and other maritime activities, particularly during periods of thunderstorms.
Public urged to monitor weather updates
PAGASA emphasized the potential for flooding and landslides during severe thunderstorms, making continued monitoring of weather conditions important for communities in low-lying, mountainous and landslide-prone areas.
Local disaster risk reduction and management offices, motorists, farmers, fisherfolk and residents living near rivers, waterways and steep slopes are advised to remain vigilant for sudden changes in weather.
Thunderstorms can develop rapidly, and conditions in one locality may differ significantly from nearby areas. Residents are therefore encouraged to monitor official advisories from PAGASA and local authorities, especially when dark clouds, strong winds, lightning or intense rainfall develop.

PAGASA said the forecast covers conditions from 5:00 a.m. Tuesday until 5:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 16, subject to succeeding weather updates.
