GENERAL SANTOS CITY, Philippines — Residents of Caraga Region should prepare for cloudy skies, scattered rains, and thunderstorms on Friday, November 6, as the Easterlies continue to influence weather conditions across Mindanao, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

In its regional weather forecast issued at 5:00 a.m. on November 6 by the Mindanao Regional Services Division (MINPRSD), PAGASA warned that moderate to occasionally heavy rainfall over Caraga could trigger flash floods and landslides, particularly in areas vulnerable to flooding and rain-induced slope failures.

The provinces of Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Dinagat Islands are expected to experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms throughout the forecast period, which runs from 5:00 a.m. Friday until 5:00 a.m. Saturday, November 7.

The weather bureau’s warning highlights the possibility of localized flooding and landslides as rainfall intensifies, particularly in low-lying communities, areas near rivers and waterways, and locations with unstable slopes.

Easterlies bring rain chances across the rest of Mindanao

Outside Caraga, the rest of Mindanao will generally experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies, with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms also associated with the Easterlies.

Although rainfall is expected to be less widespread in these areas, PAGASA cautioned that severe thunderstorms could still produce flash floods or landslides.

Light to moderate northeast winds, slight to moderate seas

PAGASA also forecast light to moderate winds coming from the northeast across Mindanao.

Coastal waters are expected to remain slight to moderate, with wave heights generally ranging from 0.6 to 2.1 meters. These conditions are forecast across the coastal areas covered by the regional bulletin.

While the forecast indicates generally manageable sea conditions, fishermen, boat operators, and other small-craft users are advised to remain attentive to changing weather conditions, especially when thunderstorms develop.

Residents urged to remain alert

With Caraga facing a greater likelihood of sustained rainfall and the rest of Mindanao vulnerable to localized thunderstorms, residents are encouraged to monitor weather updates and follow advisories from local disaster risk reduction and management offices.

Communities in flood-prone areas should remain alert for rising water levels, while residents near mountainsides and steep slopes should watch for signs of possible landslides, particularly during periods of heavy or prolonged rainfall.

Motorists are also advised to exercise caution when traveling during heavy downpours, as reduced visibility, slippery roads, and sudden flooding can create hazardous driving conditions.

PAGASA’s forecast is valid from 5:00 a.m. on November 6 until 5:00 a.m. on November 7, 2026.
