DAVAO CITY — Residents across Mindanao should prepare for another day of unstable weather as the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) forecast widespread localized thunderstorms that are expected to bring isolated rain showers and thunderstorms throughout the island from 5:00 a.m. on Monday, July 13, until 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.

According to PAGASA’s Mindanao Regional Services Division (MINPRSD), the entire island will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms caused by localized thunderstorm activity. While most areas may enjoy fair weather for several hours, forecasters warned that thunderstorms developing during the day or evening could become intense enough to trigger flash floods and landslides, particularly in low-lying communities, riverbanks, mountainous areas, and locations that have already been saturated by recent heavy rains.
The weather bureau advised local government units, disaster risk reduction offices, and residents to remain vigilant, especially as many parts of Mindanao continue to recover from the effects of recent weather disturbances.
Moderate Winds and Seas Expected
Across Mindanao, moderate southerly winds will prevail, generating moderate coastal waters with wave heights ranging from 0.6 to 2.1 meters. While sea conditions remain generally safe for most small and medium-sized fishing vessels, PAGASA reminded fishermen and operators of small boats to exercise caution whenever thunderstorms develop, as these can produce sudden strong winds, rough seas, lightning, and reduced visibility.
Rain Expected Across All Regions
The forecast covers all major regions of Mindanao, including the Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, SOCCSKSARGEN, Caraga Region, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), where localized thunderstorms are expected to occur intermittently throughout the forecast period.
In the Zamboanga Peninsula, including Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Isabela City, temperatures are expected to range between 25°C and 35°C, with partly cloudy skies becoming cloudy at times accompanied by rain showers or thunderstorms.
Residents in Northern Mindanao, including Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, and Misamis Oriental, can expect similar weather conditions. Daytime temperatures are forecast to range from 20°C in the highlands of Bukidnon to as high as 32°C in coastal provinces.
The Davao Region will likewise experience periods of sunshine interrupted by localized thunderstorms. Metro Davao, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, and Davao Occidental are expected to record temperatures ranging between 23°C and 34°C.
In SOCCSKSARGEN, including North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Sarangani, isolated thunderstorms may develop throughout the day, with temperatures expected between 23°C and 32°C.
Across the Caraga Region, which includes Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Dinagat Islands, thunderstorms may become more active during the afternoon and evening. Maximum temperatures could reach 35°C in Agusan del Norte and 36°C in Surigao del Sur, making conditions hot and humid before thunderstorms develop.
Meanwhile, residents in BARMM, including Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, Maguindanao del Sur, and Cotabato City, should also expect isolated rain showers and thunderstorms. Basilan may experience moderate to strong southerly winds with moderate to rough coastal waters, prompting additional caution for marine travel.
Authorities Urge Public Vigilance
PAGASA emphasized that although the forecast indicates only isolated thunderstorms, these weather systems can rapidly intensify and produce heavy rainfall within a short period, increasing the risk of flooding in urban areas and landslides in mountainous terrain.
The agency urged residents to continue monitoring official weather advisories, especially those living in flood-prone and landslide-prone communities, and to heed instructions from local disaster management authorities should weather conditions deteriorate.
Motorists are likewise advised to drive carefully during heavy downpours due to reduced visibility and slippery road conditions, while outdoor activities should be suspended immediately whenever thunder and lightning are observed.
With localized thunderstorms expected to persist across much of Mindanao, authorities continue to remind the public that weather conditions can change rapidly, making preparedness and timely response essential to minimizing the risks posed by severe thunderstorms.
