The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has forecast generally unstable weather conditions across Mindanao from 5:00 AM today, May 13, 2026, until 5:00 AM tomorrow, as localized thunderstorms continue to affect the region.

In its latest regional weather bulletin issued by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), PAGASA-Mindanao (MINPRSD) said that most areas will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms, with the possibility of flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorm activity.

Widespread unstable weather conditions

According to the forecast, the weather pattern is driven mainly by localized thunderstorms, bringing short bursts of heavy rainfall especially in the afternoon or evening periods. Winds across Mindanao will remain light to moderate from the southwest, while coastal waters are expected to be slight to moderate, ranging from 0.6 to 1.5 meters.

Zamboanga Peninsula: intermittent rains across provinces

The entire Zamboanga Peninsula, including Zamboanga City and the provinces of Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Isabela City, is forecast to have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with rainshowers or thunderstorms throughout the day.

Temperatures will range from 25°C to 33°C, with coastal areas expected to experience slight to moderate sea conditions. PAGASA warned residents, especially in low-lying and coastal communities, to remain alert for sudden heavy downpours.

Northern Mindanao: warm and humid with scattered storms

In Northern Mindanao, provinces such as Bukidnon, Misamis Oriental, Misamis Occidental, Lanao del Norte, and Camiguin will also experience similar weather conditions.

Mountainous areas like Bukidnon may see cooler temperatures ranging from 20°C to 33°C, while coastal provinces may reach up to 33°C. Rainfall may develop in the afternoon or evening, particularly over inland and elevated areas.

Davao Region: generally warm with afternoon thunderstorms

The Davao Region, including Metro Davao, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, and Davao Occidental, will also have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with localized thunderstorms.

Temperatures across the region are expected to range from 25°C to 35°C, with higher daytime heat index possible in urban areas. PAGASA advised the public to remain cautious of sudden heavy rainfall, particularly during late afternoons.

SOCCSKSARGEN and BARMM: risk of heavy downpours

The SOCCSKSARGEN and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) are also expected to experience similar weather patterns.

Provinces including North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, and Cotabato City may see temperatures between 24°C and 35°C, with intermittent thunderstorms likely to develop in the afternoon or evening.

PAGASA emphasized the risk of localized flooding in urban areas and landslide-prone communities, especially in areas experiencing prolonged rainfall.

Caraga and northeastern Mindanao: cloudy skies with isolated storms

In the Caraga Region, including Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Dinagat Islands, similar conditions are expected.

Temperatures will range from 24°C to 33°C, with coastal waters remaining slightly to moderately rough. Residents in coastal and river-adjacent communities are advised to stay alert for sudden weather changes.

PAGASA advisory

PAGASA reiterated that while no widespread weather disturbance is currently affecting Mindanao, the prevalence of localized thunderstorms may still bring sudden heavy rain, lightning, and strong gusty winds in affected areas.

The agency advised the public to:

  • Stay updated with official weather bulletins from PAGASA
  • Avoid crossing swollen rivers or flood-prone areas during heavy rains
  • Take precautionary measures against landslides in mountainous regions
  • Secure outdoor structures that may be affected by strong winds

For emergencies and weather updates, PAGASA-Mindanao encourages the public to contact their regional office or visit official channels of the DOST-PAGASA system.
