Residents across Mindanao should prepare for isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms over the next 24 hours as the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) monitored a Low Pressure Area (LPA) east of Catanduanes while localized thunderstorms continue to affect the region.

In its Regional Weather Forecast for MINPRSD issued at 5:00 a.m. Thursday, May 14, PAGASA said the LPA, formerly identified as “Caloy,” was estimated at 555 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes as of 3:00 p.m. Wednesday.

Despite the weather disturbance being outside Mindanao, PAGASA said localized thunderstorms will continue to influence weather conditions across the island, bringing partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms.

Authorities warned that severe thunderstorms could trigger flash floods and landslides, especially in low-lying and mountainous areas vulnerable to sudden heavy rainfall.

PAGASA said winds across Mindanao will remain light to moderate coming from the south to southwest, while coastal waters will be slight to moderate with wave heights ranging from 0.6 to 1.5 meters.

In the Zamboanga Peninsula, including Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Isabela City, temperatures are expected to range from 24°C to 35°C with intermittent thunderstorms throughout the day.

Northern Mindanao provinces such as Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, and Misamis Oriental will also experience similar weather conditions, with temperatures ranging between 22°C and 34°C.

In the Davao Region, including Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, Davao Occidental, and Metro Davao, residents can expect warm and humid conditions with temperatures reaching up to 35°C amid scattered thunderstorms.

PAGASA also forecast thunderstorms across SOCCSKSARGEN provinces including South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, and North Cotabato, where temperatures may climb between 30°C and 35°C.

Meanwhile, the Caraga Region, including Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Dinagat Islands, may experience hotter daytime temperatures reaching up to 36°C alongside afternoon and evening thunderstorms.

In the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), including Cotabato City, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao del Norte, and Maguindanao del Sur, isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms are likewise expected, with temperatures ranging from 22°C to 35°C.

PAGASA advised the public, especially residents living near rivers, flood-prone communities, and landslide-prone areas, to remain alert during severe thunderstorms and monitor official weather advisories for possible updates.
