Mindanao residents are advised to brace for wet weather today as the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that a Low Pressure Area (LPA) east of Eastern Samar is affecting parts of the island.
As of 3:00 p.m. yesterday, the LPA was estimated at 335 kilometers east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar. While it remains outside Mindanao, its trough is enhancing rains over several provinces.
Cloudy skies, thunderstorms in Northern Mindanao and Caraga
Caraga Region, Misamis Oriental, and Camiguin Island will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms throughout the forecast period due to the LPA. PAGASA cautioned that heavy downpours may trigger possible flooding or landslides in flood-prone and mountainous areas.
The rest of Mindanao, including parts of the Davao Region, SOCCSKSARGEN, and BARMM, will generally have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms caused by localized thunderstorms.
Provincial Forecasts
- Zamboanga Peninsula: Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Isabela City will have partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with rainshowers or thunderstorms. Temperatures range from 22°C to 33°C.
- Northern Mindanao: While Misamis Oriental and Camiguin face cloudy skies with thunderstorms, Bukidnon, Lanao del Norte, and Misamis Occidental will see partly cloudy conditions with scattered showers. Temperatures range between 21°C to 31°C.
- Davao Region: Davao City, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, and Davao de Oro are forecast to have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with rainshowers or thunderstorms. Highs may reach up to 33°C.
- SOCCSKSARGEN: North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Sarangani will experience partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with isolated thunderstorms. Temperatures range from 21°C to 32°C.
- BARMM Provinces: Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao del Norte, Maguindanao del Sur, and Lanao del Sur can expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with rainshowers or thunderstorms, with temperatures between 21°C and 33°C.
Winds and Coastal Conditions
Across Mindanao, light to moderate winds from the northeast to northwest will prevail, bringing slight to moderate seas with wave heights of 0.6 to 1.5 meters.
PAGASA Advisory
Forecasters reminded residents, particularly in areas expecting sustained rains such as Caraga and Northern Mindanao, to remain alert against sudden heavy rainfall, possible flash floods, and landslides.
