Mindanao – September 12, 2025 — A Low Pressure Area (LPA) spotted east of Surigao del Sur is expected to bring scattered rains and thunderstorms over parts of Mindanao today, raising concerns for possible flash floods and landslides, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported.
As of 3:00 a.m., the LPA was estimated at 540 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur. Its trough will primarily affect Caraga Region and Davao Oriental, where cloudy skies with moderate to heavy rains and thunderstorms are expected. Residents in these areas are advised to stay alert for potential flooding and landslides, especially in low-lying and mountainous areas.
The rest of Mindanao, including Northern Mindanao, the Zamboanga Peninsula, SOCCSKSARGEN, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), will generally experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized weather systems. PAGASA cautioned that severe thunderstorms could still trigger flash floods or landslides.
Regional Conditions
- Zamboanga Peninsula (Zamboanga del Norte, del Sur, Sibugay, and Zamboanga City): Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms. Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas. Temperatures range between 23°C and 33°C.
- Northern Mindanao (Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, Misamis Oriental): Partly cloudy skies with chances of afternoon or evening thunderstorms. Coastal waters slight to moderate. Temperatures between 20°C and 31°C.

- Caraga (Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Dinagat Islands): Cloudy skies with rainshowers and thunderstorms throughout the day. Coastal conditions slight to moderate. Temperatures range from 23°C to 33°C.
- SOCCSKSARGEN (North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Sarangani): Generally fair weather with localized thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening. Slight to moderate seas.

Winds across Mindanao are forecast to remain light to moderate from variable directions, while seas will be slight to moderate, ranging from 0.4 to 1.0 meters in height.
