With its stunning natural landscapes that continue to bring pride to the region and the nation, Davao Oriental attracted over 219,000 tourists during the long Holy Week weekend.

According to data from the Provincial Tourism Office, a total of 219,019 visitors explored the province’s tourist destinations — 218,910 were domestic travelers, while 109 were foreign tourists. Eco-parks, museums, and other local attractions became favorite spots for vacation, family bonding, and peaceful retreats, especially for those seeking a deeper connection with nature.

Governor Niño Uy emphasized the significant contribution of this tourism surge to the local economy, particularly benefiting local vendors, the transportation sector, hotels, restaurants, and various small businesses. He added that this influx of visitors is a clear sign of the province’s growing tourism industry, which the local government continues to vigorously promote and develop.

Last year, Davao Oriental was recognized as the Best Tourism-Oriented Local Government Unit in the country, a testament to the strong initiatives spearheaded by the Provincial Government under Governor Uy’s leadership.

To ensure the safety and comfort of all guests, Gov. Uy highlighted that security measures were intensified during the holiday, with police and tourism assistance desks strategically placed at key tourist spots, alongside regular inspections and patrols.

The governor also extended his gratitude to all the tourists who chose Davao Oriental as their holiday destination. He reaffirmed the province’s ongoing commitment to preserving its rich natural resources and cultural heritage for future generations of Oriental Dabawenyos.

Provincial Tourism Officer Lyrna Padohinog noted that the impressive number of visitors reflects the strong momentum of tourism in the province. She expressed optimism that these numbers will further increase once major infrastructure projects, including the ongoing airport development, are completed — expected to attract even more visitors from across the country and beyond.

Gov. Uy believes that the continuous growth of tourism will lead to higher business revenues, more employment opportunities for residents, and accelerated development across the service, transport, and economic sectors of Davao Oriental. He vowed that tourism initiatives will remain inclusive, sustainable, and supportive of programs designed to open up new opportunities for the people.
