In a bid to strengthen the local economy of Davao Oriental, Governor Niño Uy recently met with Belgian Ambassador to the Philippines H.E. Michel Parys and Belgium’s Honorary Consul Leonilo G. Claudio to discuss potential investments in the province.
The Belgian government representatives expressed their keen interest in expanding partnerships and investments in Davao Oriental, citing opportunities to enhance collaboration with local stakeholders.
Ambassador Parys highlighted Belgium’s intent to support initiatives that benefit the local cacao industry. Currently, Puratos, a Belgian food innovation company, collaborates with Kenemmer Company, which operates in Davao Oriental. The partnership specializes in cultivating, selling, and sourcing high-quality agricultural products, particularly fermented cacao beans supplied by local farmers. Ambassador Parys emphasized plans to expand these activities, which are expected to boost the province’s agricultural sector significantly.
Additionally, the ambassador expressed interest in exploring investment opportunities in the tourism sector. He noted that Davao Oriental offers a wealth of stunning destinations that could attract Belgian and other international tourists, providing a promising avenue for economic growth.
Governor Uy welcomed this positive development, stating that these prospective investments would undoubtedly uplift the province’s economy and accelerate its progress. He also extended his gratitude to the Belgian Embassy for its commitment to fostering partnerships in the region.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to advancing agriculture and tourism, which are the primary economic drivers of Davao Oriental. Proactive efforts, such as seeking collaborations with international governments and companies, are part of his broader agenda to improve the livelihoods of residents through sustainable programs and initiatives.
Governor Uy expressed optimism that these collaborations with Belgium will generate more jobs and spur local economic growth, further solidifying Davao Oriental’s position as a hub for agriculture and tourism in the region.
