CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines (July 4, 2026) — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Saturday said Typhoon Bavi (International Name: Bavi) remains outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), but localized thunderstorms and the prevailing easterlies will continue to bring isolated rain showers across Mindanao over the next 24 hours.

In its 5:00 a.m. Regional Weather Forecast for the Mindanao PAGASA Regional Services Division (MINPRSD), the weather bureau reported that Typhoon Bavi was estimated at 3,190 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas as of 3:00 p.m. Friday, with maximum sustained winds of 150 kilometers per hour, gustiness of up to 185 kilometers per hour, and moving westward at 20 kilometers per hour.

Despite the cyclone’s considerable distance from the country, PAGASA said the easterlies continue to affect the eastern section of Mindanao, while localized thunderstorms remain the dominant weather system over the rest of the island.

Caraga to Experience Rain Showers Due to Easterlies

The Caraga Region is expected to have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms caused by the easterlies.

Meanwhile, the rest of Mindanao—including Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, SOCCSKSARGEN, the Zamboanga Peninsula, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM)—will generally experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorm activity.

PAGASA warned residents that although rainfall will be isolated, severe thunderstorms could trigger flash floods and landslides, particularly in low-lying, flood-prone, and mountainous areas.

Calm to Moderate Sea Conditions Expected

The weather bureau said the eastern section of Mindanao will experience light to moderate winds from the northeast to northwest, with slight to moderate coastal waters ranging from 0.6 to 1.2 meters.

The rest of Mindanao will have light to moderate southwest to west winds, with sea conditions likewise remaining slight to moderate, making marine travel generally manageable. However, fishermen and operators of small sea vessels are still advised to remain cautious, especially when thunderstorms develop suddenly.

Weather Outlook by Region

Across the Zamboanga Peninsula, including Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Isabela City, residents can expect partly cloudy skies becoming cloudy at times with rain showers or thunderstorms. Temperatures are forecast to range between 24°C and 32°C, accompanied by light to moderate southwest to west winds.

In Northern Mindanao, provinces such as Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, and Misamis Oriental will experience similar weather conditions. Temperatures are expected to range from 19°C in Bukidnon’s highlands to as high as 32°C in several lowland areas.

The Davao Region, including Metro Davao, Davao del Norte, Davao de Oro, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, and Davao Occidental, will continue to experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. Daytime temperatures could climb to 35°C in Davao del Norte, making it one of the warmest areas in the region.

In SOCCSKSARGEN, covering North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Sarangani, temperatures are expected to range from 24°C to 32°C, with generally fair weather interrupted by isolated thunderstorms.

For BARMM, including Cotabato City, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, Maguindanao del Sur, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi, similar weather conditions are forecast, with temperatures ranging from 22°C to 33°C.

Public Advised to Stay Alert

While no direct impacts from Typhoon Bavi are expected at this time, PAGASA urged the public to remain vigilant, particularly during the afternoon and evening when thunderstorms are more likely to develop.

Residents in areas susceptible to flooding and landslides are advised to closely monitor official weather advisories and be prepared for sudden heavy rainfall, lightning, and strong wind gusts associated with localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA also encouraged the public, especially those planning outdoor activities or sea travel, to regularly check the latest weather bulletins as conditions may change rapidly.
