CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines (July 5, 2026) — Most areas across Mindanao will continue to experience generally fair weather interrupted by isolated rain showers and thunderstorms over the next 24 hours as easterlies continue to affect the eastern section of the island, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

In its Regional Weather Forecast issued at 5:00 a.m. Sunday, PAGASA said the forecast remains valid until 5:00 a.m. Monday, with localized thunderstorms expected to develop in many parts of Mindanao, particularly during the afternoon and evening.

The weather bureau said Dinagat Islands will likely experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms due to the prevailing easterlies. Meanwhile, the rest of Mindanao will generally have partly cloudy to cloudy skies, with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms caused by localized thunderstorm activity.

Although no tropical cyclone is directly affecting the country at present, PAGASA continues to monitor Super Typhoon Bavi (International Name: Bavi, 2609), which remains outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

As of 3:00 p.m. Saturday, the eye of Super Typhoon Bavi was estimated at 2,845 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas, with maximum sustained winds of 205 kilometers per hour, gustiness reaching 250 kilometers per hour, and moving westward at 10 kilometers per hour.

Despite its distance from the country, PAGASA advised the public to continue monitoring official weather bulletins should there be any significant changes in the cyclone’s movement or intensity.

Risk of Flash Floods and Landslides

PAGASA warned that isolated thunderstorms may become severe enough to trigger flash floods and landslides, especially in areas with mountainous terrain, low-lying communities, and locations that have recently experienced heavy rainfall.

Residents are advised to remain vigilant, particularly during afternoon and evening thunderstorms, and to heed advisories issued by local disaster risk reduction and management offices.

Calm to Moderate Sea Conditions

Sea conditions across Mindanao remain generally favorable for most marine activities.

The eastern section of Mindanao will experience light to moderate winds blowing from the northeast to northwest, while the rest of the island will have light to moderate southwesterly to westerly winds.

Wave heights are expected to range between 0.6 and 1.2 meters, resulting in slight to moderate seas, although small fishing vessels are still encouraged to exercise caution during thunderstorms.

PAGASA forecasts similar weather conditions across the different regions of Mindanao.

In the Zamboanga Peninsula, including Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Isabela City, skies will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. Temperatures are expected to range between 23°C and 34°C.

The Northern Mindanao provinces of Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, and Misamis Oriental will likewise experience partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with isolated thunderstorms. Forecast temperatures will range from 21°C to 33°C.

Temperatures across the region are expected to range from 23°C to 33°C.

Public Advisory

PAGASA urged residents across Mindanao to remain alert for sudden thunderstorms that may bring heavy rainfall, lightning, and strong winds. Motorists are advised to exercise caution during periods of reduced visibility, while farmers, fisherfolk, and travelers are encouraged to monitor the latest weather bulletins before conducting outdoor activities.

The weather bureau also reminded local government units and disaster response agencies to maintain preparedness for possible weather-related incidents, particularly in flood-prone and landslide-prone communities.

PAGASA continues to monitor weather developments, including the movement of Super Typhoon Bavi outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility, and will issue updates as necessary.
