CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines — Large portions of Mindanao remain under the influence of the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat), with the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warning residents in several regions to brace for scattered rains, thunderstorms, possible flash floods, and landslides over the next 24 hours.

In its Regional Weather Forecast issued at 5:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2026, PAGASA’s Mindanao Regional Services Division (MINPRSD) said Zamboanga Peninsula, the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), and SOCCSKSARGEN will continue to experience cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms brought about by the prevailing Southwest Monsoon.

Weather forecasters warned that moderate to at times heavy rainfall could trigger flash floods and landslides, particularly in low-lying communities, flood-prone areas, and mountainous terrain.

The advisory comes as several parts of Mindanao continue to recover from days of relentless rains that have already caused flooding, landslides, displacement of residents, and casualties in several provinces.

Habagat Continues to Dominate Mindanao Weather

While the western and southern portions of Mindanao are expected to receive the heaviest rainfall, PAGASA said the rest of Mindanao will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms, also due to the Southwest Monsoon.

Although rainfall in these areas may be less widespread, PAGASA emphasized that localized thunderstorms remain capable of producing sudden heavy downpours, increasing the risk of flash floods and landslides.

Residents are advised to remain vigilant, especially during afternoon and evening thunderstorms when rainfall intensity can rapidly increase.

Zamboanga Peninsula Faces Another Wet Day

The entire Zamboanga Peninsula, including Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Isabela City, will remain under cloudy skies with rainshowers and thunderstorms throughout the forecast period.

Temperatures across the peninsula are expected to range between 25°C and 34°C, accompanied by light to moderate southwest winds and slight to moderate coastal waters, allowing generally safe sea conditions for most small vessels while still requiring caution during thunderstorms.

BARMM Under Continued Rainfall Threat

Across BARMM, all provinces are forecast to experience cloudy skies with rainshowers and thunderstorms, with rainfall expected to persist throughout Saturday into early Sunday.

Affected areas include:

  • Cotabato City
  • Basilan
  • Sulu
  • Tawi-Tawi
  • Lanao del Sur
  • Maguindanao del Norte
  • Maguindanao del Sur

Temperatures across the region will generally range from 22°C to 31°C.

While inland areas will experience light to moderate southwest winds, island provinces such as Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi are expected to encounter moderate to strong winds, resulting in moderate to rough coastal waters.

SOCCSKSARGEN Also Under Rainy Conditions

The provinces of North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Sarangani are likewise forecast to experience cloudy skies accompanied by scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms.

Expected temperatures range from 23°C to 30°C, with generally light to moderate southwest winds and slight to moderate sea conditions along coastal areas.

PAGASA warned that persistent rainfall could quickly elevate river levels and trigger flooding, particularly in communities already saturated from previous days of rain.

Eastern Mindanao to Experience Stronger Winds

Although eastern Mindanao—including the Davao Region and Caraga Region—is expected to see only partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms, weather conditions at sea are expected to be more hazardous.

PAGASA said the eastern section of Mindanao will experience moderate to strong southwest winds, producing moderate to rough seas ranging from 1.5 to 3.1 meters.

The advisory covers:

Davao Region

  • Davao City
  • Davao del Norte
  • Davao del Sur
  • Davao Oriental
  • Davao de Oro
  • Davao Occidental

Caraga Region

  • Agusan del Norte
  • Agusan del Sur
  • Surigao del Norte
  • Surigao del Sur
  • Dinagat Islands

Temperatures across these provinces are expected to range between 25°C and 34°C.

Fisherfolk operating small sea vessels, as well as operators of small boats and other light watercraft, are urged to exercise caution due to rougher sea conditions, particularly along the eastern coastline facing the Philippine Sea.

Northern Mindanao to See Intermittent Showers

In Northern Mindanao, including Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, and Misamis Oriental, residents can expect partly cloudy skies becoming cloudy at times with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms.

Temperatures are forecast to range from 20°C in Bukidnon’s highlands to as high as 33°C in lowland provinces.

Winds will remain light to moderate from the southwest, while coastal waters are expected to stay slight to moderate, although thunderstorms may still produce sudden gusts and rough conditions.

Authorities Urge Public Vigilance

With the Southwest Monsoon continuing to affect much of Mindanao, authorities are urging residents to closely monitor official weather bulletins and heed evacuation advisories issued by local government units should flooding or landslides become imminent.

Motorists are likewise advised to avoid crossing flooded roads and bridges, while communities near rivers, mountain slopes, and landslide-prone areas should remain on heightened alert.

PAGASA said weather conditions may still change depending on the behavior of the Southwest Monsoon, and the public is encouraged to monitor succeeding advisories for updates.
