GENERAL SANTOS CITY — A 47-year-old man was stabbed dead in Barangay Calumpang after a drunken confrontation triggered by a petty argument over peanuts turned violent, police reported.
The victim, identified as Ramil Doria Amor of Lower Banualan, Barangay Tambler, was drinking with Jayvee Vasquez, 25, of Purok Christian Village, when tempers flared. According to investigators, Vasquez became upset after Amor allegedly reacted angrily when he asked for peanuts from a nearby store. The exchange escalated, and the suspect reportedly started punching the victim under the influence of alcohol.
Vasquez fled home but returned armed with a kitchen knife. Consumed by rage, he confronted Amor again near a gasoline station along the National Highway in Barangay Calumpang and stabbed him in the chest and several parts of the body. Amor was rushed to the nearest medical facility but was declared dead on arrival.
Police later caught up with Vasquez along the highway — bloodied and still holding the 10-inch stainless kitchen knife believed to be the murder weapon. The suspect claimed he acted in self-defense, insisting that he feared for his life if he did not attack first.
Authorities are now preparing appropriate charges against Vasquez as the investigation continues.
