GENERAL SANTOS CITY — Police Major Gaspar E. Maguiwe is now under restricted custody at Camp Fermin Lira after allegedly going on a drunken outburst inside the General Santos City Police Office compound and crashing his vehicle into an electric post late Tuesday night.
GSCPO City Director Police Colonel Nocomedes Olaivar Jr. confirmed that Major Maguiwe has been disarmed, detained, and is now facing both criminal and administrative charges. “We immediately placed him under custody and initiated an investigation. Charges are being prepared,” Col. Olaivar said.
According to the report, Maguiwe was instructed by PLTCOL Joven Bagaygay, Deputy City Director for Administration, to clean the Lakan Hall. Instead of complying, the police major—reportedly under the influence of alcohol—became irate, started shouting, and caused a disturbance inside the facility.
He later attempted to leave the camp on board a vehicle; however, due to excessive intoxication, he crashed into an electric post near the PRBS Building, causing panic among on-duty personnel.
This is not the first time Maguiwe has been embroiled in controversy. He was previously relieved as station commander after reportedly being involved in illegal gambling activities that stirred disorder in the community.
Police investigators are now validating the full circumstances surrounding the incident while awaiting Maguiwe’s official explanation. The GSCPO leadership stressed that no member of the police force is exempt from the law, especially those whose conduct undermines public trust.
Residents and rights groups are urging a firm, transparent response from the police hierarchy, noting that such behavior from someone expected to uphold the law paints a troubling picture of accountability within the ranks.
