MAGPET, COTABATO PROVINCE — A married couple died after the Bajaj motorcycle they were riding plunged into a ravine in Purok 1, Barangay Noa, Magpet, Cotabato Province, at around 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2026.
The victims were identified as Jingle Daquila, who was driving the motorcycle, and his wife, Cherrylyn Guillermo Relator Daquila, who was riding as his passenger. Both were reportedly residents of Tulunan, Cotabato Province.
Initial information indicated that the couple was traveling from Veruela, Agusan del Sur, to Tulunan, Cotabato, where they intended to visit their grandmother.
The accident occurred while the couple was traversing a portion of the road in Barangay Noa. Based on the initial account gathered by authorities, the motorcycle reportedly overshot a curve, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle before it plunged down the roadside embankment.
The impact left both victims with severe injuries.
Rescue personnel immediately responded to the scene and brought the injured couple to the nearest medical facility for emergency treatment. Despite efforts to save them, however, both victims were declared dead due to the severity of their injuries.
Authorities continued to investigate the incident to establish the circumstances surrounding the crash and determine the exact factors that led to the motorcycle leaving the roadway.
The tragedy occurred while the couple was making the long journey from Agusan del Sur to Cotabato for a family visit, turning what was supposed to be a trip to see a loved one into a fatal road accident.
Authorities are expected to further examine the road conditions, the motorcycle’s movement before the crash, and other circumstances that may have contributed to the accident.
The incident also underscores the dangers faced by motorists traveling along roads with sharp curves and steep roadside drop-offs, where even a momentary loss of control can result in fatal consequences.
