EL SALVADOR CITY, Misamis Oriental — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issued an advisory early Tuesday morning, warning residents across Mindanao to remain alert for possible flash floods and landslides as localized thunderstorms are expected to bring intermittent rain showers throughout the day.
According to the Mindanao Regional Services Division (MINPRSD), the region will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms from Tuesday morning until early Wednesday, October 16. The weather agency cautioned that while most areas will remain fair and warm during the day, severe thunderstorms could trigger flash floods and landslides, especially in low-lying and mountainous areas.
Winds and Sea Conditions
Light to moderate winds from the northeast to north will prevail across the island, with slight to moderate coastal seas ranging from 0.6 to 1.5 meters. PAGASA advised small fishing boats and local vessels to exercise caution, particularly during periods of thunderstorms when sea conditions may briefly worsen.

PAGASA forecaster CJCN reiterated the importance of staying vigilant during sudden heavy rainfall, particularly in areas prone to flooding and landslides. “Localized thunderstorms can develop rapidly. Residents are urged to monitor updates from local disaster risk reduction offices and remain cautious when traveling near rivers, slopes, or coastal zones,” the forecast officer advised.
