DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Residents across Mindanao should brace for intermittent rain showers and thunderstorms over the next 24 hours as localized thunderstorms continue to affect the region, according to the latest weather bulletin issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) Mindanao Regional Services Division (MINPRSD).

In its regional weather forecast issued at 5:00 a.m. on June 11, PAGASA said Mindanao will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, primarily caused by localized thunderstorm activity.

While no tropical cyclone or low-pressure area is currently affecting the region, weather authorities warned that severe thunderstorms may trigger flash floods and landslides, particularly in low-lying areas, riverbanks, and communities situated near mountain slopes.

“PAGASA advises the public to remain vigilant, especially during periods of intense rainfall and thunderstorm activity,” the agency said.

Light to Moderate Winds Expected

Across Mindanao, winds will generally be light to moderate, blowing from the southeast to southwest. Coastal waters are expected to remain slight to moderate, with wave heights ranging from 0.6 to 1.5 meters, making sea travel generally safe, although fishermen and small sea vessels are still advised to monitor weather updates for sudden changes in conditions.

Rain Showers Likely Across All Regions

The forecast indicates that virtually all provinces and cities across Mindanao may experience periods of rain showers and thunderstorms throughout the day and into Friday morning.

In the Zamboanga Peninsula, including Zamboanga City, Isabela City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, and Zamboanga Sibugay, temperatures are expected to range between 24°C and 35°C. Weather conditions will remain partly cloudy to cloudy with occasional rain showers and thunderstorms.

The Northern Mindanao provinces of Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, and Misamis Oriental will also experience similar weather patterns. Temperatures in the region are forecast to range from 20°C to 33°C, with Bukidnon expected to record the coolest temperatures due to its higher elevation.

In the Davao Region, including Metro Davao, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, and Davao Occidental, isolated thunderstorms are likely throughout the forecast period. Temperatures may reach as high as 34°C, contributing to warm and humid conditions when rain is absent.

SOCCSKSARGEN Still Recovering from Earthquake

The weather forecast comes at a crucial time for communities in SOCCSKSARGEN, particularly in Sarangani Province and nearby areas still recovering from the recent magnitude 7.8 earthquake.

North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Sarangani are expected to experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with rain showers and thunderstorms. Temperatures will range from 23°C to 34°C.

Authorities have expressed concern that heavy rainfall could complicate relief and recovery operations in earthquake-affected communities, especially where landslides, damaged infrastructure, and unstable ground conditions remain a concern.

Thunderstorms Also Expected in Caraga and BARMM

The Caraga Region, including Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Dinagat Islands, will continue to experience isolated rain showers and thunderstorms. Temperatures are forecast to reach up to 35°C, particularly in Surigao del Norte and Agusan del Norte.

Meanwhile, provinces under the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM)—including Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, Maguindanao del Sur, and Cotabato City—are likewise expected to experience unsettled weather conditions due to localized thunderstorms.

Among the coolest areas in Mindanao will be Lanao del Sur, where temperatures are forecast to range between 21°C and 30°C.

Public Advised to Stay Alert

PAGASA urged residents to remain updated through official weather bulletins and advisories, particularly those living in flood-prone and landslide-prone areas.

The agency also reminded motorists to exercise caution during periods of heavy rainfall and advised local disaster management offices to monitor weather developments closely.

As Mindanao continues to recover from recent natural disasters, including the devastating earthquake that struck parts of southern Philippines this week, weather authorities emphasized the importance of preparedness and vigilance against hazards that may arise from sudden thunderstorms and heavy downpours.

The forecast remains valid until 5:00 a.m. on June 12, 2026.
