El Salvador City, Misamis Oriental – September 8, 2025 — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has issued a regional weather forecast for Mindanao, warning of cloudy skies and scattered rain showers throughout the day, with Caraga Region facing the highest risk of heavy rains and possible flooding.
According to the Mindanao PAGASA Regional Services Division (MINPRSD), the easterlies are continuing to influence weather patterns across the island. Caraga provinces, including Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and the Dinagat Islands, are expected to experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms. Moderate to heavy rains may trigger flash floods and landslides in low-lying and mountainous areas.
The rest of Mindanao, including Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, SOCCSKSARGEN, Zamboanga Peninsula, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), will generally have partly cloudy to cloudy skies. Localized rain showers or thunderstorms remain possible, particularly in the afternoon or evening, due to the easterlies.
Provincial Conditions
- Zamboanga Peninsula (Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Isabela City): Expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated thunderstorms. Temperatures range from 22°C to 33°C, with slight to moderate seas.
- Northern Mindanao (Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, Misamis Oriental): Similar conditions of partly cloudy skies with occasional rains are expected, with temperatures from 19°C to 31°C.
- Davao Region (Davao City, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, Davao Occidental): Partly cloudy skies with isolated thunderstorms are likely, with temperatures from 20°C to 33°C.
- SOCCSKSARGEN (North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani): The region will also have partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with localized thunderstorms, temperatures ranging between 21°C and 31°C.
- BARMM (Cotabato City, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, Maguindanao del Sur, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi): Skies will be partly cloudy to cloudy with scattered rain showers or thunderstorms. Temperatures range from 21°C to 33°C.
Winds and Seas
Light to moderate winds from the east to northeast will prevail across the island, bringing slight to moderate seas with wave heights between 0.6 to 1.5 meters.
Advisory
PAGASA forecasters urged residents, particularly those in the Caraga Region and other flood-prone areas, to remain vigilant against sudden downpours, flash floods, and landslides. Fisherfolk and small seacraft operators are advised to take precautions when venturing into coastal waters, especially during thunderstorms.
