Residents across Mindanao can expect generally fair weather conditions today, September 9, with partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies and the possibility of isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

In its latest regional forecast, PAGASA said the weather pattern is influenced by the prevailing Easterlies, bringing light to moderate winds from the northeast to east. Coastal waters across the region are forecast to be slight to moderate, ranging from 0.6 to 1.5 meters in wave height, making sea travel generally safe for fishermen and small seacraft.

Zamboanga Peninsula

Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Isabela City will all experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with rainshowers or thunderstorms throughout the day. Winds will be light to moderate from the northeast to east, with coastal waters expected to remain slight to moderate. Temperatures in the peninsula will range between 22°C to 32°C.

Northern Mindanao

Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, and Misamis Oriental will also see partly cloudy to cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms. Misamis Oriental is forecast to record the warmest temperatures in the region at 24°C to 34°C. Coastal waters in Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, and Misamis Oriental will remain slight to moderate.

Davao Region

Metro Davao, along with Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, and Davao Occidental, will experience similar conditions of partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with localized rainshowers and thunderstorms. The hottest areas are expected to be in Davao del Norte and Davao del Sur, with daytime highs of 34°C.

SOCCSKSARGEN

North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Sarangani will continue to see partly cloudy skies with chances of rain and thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening. Temperatures will peak between 32°C to 33°C, with coastal seas in South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Sarangani forecast to be slight to moderate.

Caraga Region

Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and the Dinagat Islands will experience more frequent rains compared to other parts of Mindanao. PAGASA warned of cloudy skies with rainshowers and thunderstorms particularly in Agusan provinces, Surigao del Sur, and Dinagat Islands, which could bring localized flooding in low-lying areas. Temperatures may climb up to 35°C in Agusan del Sur, the highest forecast for the region today.

Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM)

Cotabato City, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, Maguindanao del Sur, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi are forecast to experience partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms. Temperatures will range from 21°C to 34°C, with the warmest conditions expected in Maguindanao del Sur.

Outlook

PAGASA forecasters advised residents to remain alert for possible flash floods and landslides during sudden downpours, especially in flood-prone and mountainous areas. Fisherfolk are also urged to monitor updates regularly, even as sea conditions are expected to remain generally calm to moderate.
