ZAMBOANGA CITY — The skies over Paseo del Mar turned into a dazzling canvas of color, creativity, and community spirit as the Verano Kite Festival 2025 soared high last Saturday, May 3. Drawing families, kite enthusiasts, and spectators alike, the annual event marked another vibrant chapter in Zamboanga City’s Summer Festival.



Organized by the City Government through the City Tourism Office, in partnership with JCI Zamboanga and the SK Zamboanga Federation, the kite festival is a much-anticipated highlight of the Verano Festival—a summer-long celebration of fun, culture, and local pride.
Participants of all ages gathered early at Paseo del Mar, setting up their kites of various shapes, sizes, and designs, each one a reflection of imagination and craftsmanship. The sky was soon alive with fluttering dragons, geometric wonders, and colorful tails dancing in the summer breeze.
Winners Took Flight
In the Plain Category, Deevia Jane Columbres emerged as champion, followed by Lakdim S. Mulladima and Jayson Alvarez in second and third place respectively. Special awards were given to Nherico V. Dela Rama for the Smallest Flying Kite, Bernabe C. Delin Jr. for the Largest, EJ Paul Lumimas for the Most Colorful, and Gian Carlo Ybañez for the Most Unique Design.
The 3D Category saw Julius Smith B. Villarosa take first place, while Jayson Alvarez and Jose S. Racho II claimed second and third. Gian Carlo Ybañez took another win for Smallest Flying Kite, with Crisanto C. Delin earning the Largest Flying Kite title. Marvin Adion was recognized for the Most Colorful Kite, and Howard Valeriano for the Most Unique Design.
A Festival for All Ages
The Verano Kite Festival is more than a competition—it’s a celebration of shared joy and creativity. As kites soared overhead, laughter and cheers filled the air, creating a festive atmosphere perfect for families and friends to enjoy Zamboanga’s vibrant summer culture.
“Events like this bring our community together and showcase the talent and ingenuity of Zamboangueños,” said a representative from the City Tourism Office. “It’s tourism that lifts not just kites—but spirits as well.”
