Davao City, Philippines – February 9, 2025 – Task Force Davao operatives intercepted P6.9 million worth of suspected shabu at the Sirawan checkpoint late Friday night, leading to the arrest of two individuals.

Authorities identified the suspects as Mejan, 46, of Zamboanga City, and Abben, 32, of Jolo, Sulu. The two were aboard a pickup truck when security personnel at the checkpoint noticed a suspicious brown box inside the vehicle. Upon questioning, the suspects provided conflicting statements, prompting an inspection of their cargo.

During the search, operatives discovered the illicit substance. In a desperate attempt to evade arrest, Mejan allegedly tried to bribe CAAII Jessie Salem with P16,800. However, the officer rejected the offer. The suspects then attempted to flee the scene but were swiftly apprehended by security forces.

The suspects are now in police custody and will be facing charges for violating Republic Act No. 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. Additionally, they will be charged under Article 151 of the Revised Penal Code for resistance and disobedience to authorities.

Authorities continue to strengthen security measures in the region to combat illegal drug activities. Task Force Davao reiterated its commitment to preventing the entry and distribution of illegal substances in the city.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the source and intended destination of the seized drugs.
