Davao City, Philippines – A man’s attempt to smuggle illegal drugs into the Davao City Jail Male Dormitory was foiled during a routine inspection on February 7, 2025, at around 11:25 AM.
According to reports, as part of the standard operating procedures for visitors at the city jail, Jail Officer 1 (JO1) Nelson T. Epifanio conducted an inspection of the belongings of a visitor identified only as alias Renante. The visitor was at the facility to see his son, alias Renan, who is currently detained as a Person Deprived of Liberty (PDL).
During the inspection, JO1 Epifanio noticed an unusual bulge in the garter of Renante’s boxer shorts. Upon closer examination, the garter was cut open, revealing a white crystalline substance suspected to be shabu. The confiscated illegal substance weighed approximately 7.5 grams, with an estimated street value of PHP 50,600.
Following the discovery, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) officers immediately arrested Renante and turned him over to the PS16-Maa Police Station for proper disposition.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to preventing illegal drug smuggling within detention facilities and emphasized the importance of stringent inspections to uphold security within the jail premises. Investigations are ongoing to determine further details regarding the incident.
