Zamboanga City, Philippines – November 1, 2024
The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) of Zamboanga successfully completed a significant relief mission on Friday, loading 8,000 water jerry cans and 20,000 doxycycline tablets onto a Philippine Navy vessel docked at Majini Pier, Calarian. The shipment is bound for the Bicol region, recently devastated by Tropical Storm Kristine. This timely initiative, aimed at aiding displaced and affected families, reflects the city’s strong commitment to supporting areas severely impacted by natural disasters.

The relief supplies are part of a broader donation package organized by the city government under a resolution passed by the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC), chaired by Mayor John Dalipe. Recognizing the immediate need for clean water and medical supplies in storm-hit communities, the council quickly mobilized resources to provide essential goods and medications, including doxycycline to prevent and treat infections that may spread in the aftermath of the storm.
In addition to the CDRRMO’s contributions, the Office of Civil Defense Region 9 (OCD-9) has collaborated closely with the city government, coordinating the inclusion of family food packs for Bicol residents affected by the storm. The Philippine Navy will transport these supplies, ensuring that assistance reaches those most in need, with OCD-9 overseeing logistics for a swift and efficient response.
As relief operations continue, Mayor Dalipe emphasized the importance of unity and timely action in supporting fellow Filipinos during challenging times. “Our mission goes beyond borders. Zamboanga City stands ready to help our brothers and sisters in Bicol as they face the aftermath of this disaster,” the mayor stated.
The relief shipment highlights a dedicated partnership between Zamboanga City, OCD-9, and the Philippine Navy, setting an example of swift, coordinated action in the face of adversity. The vessel, laden with vital supplies, is expected to reach the Bicol region shortly, bringing much-needed relief to communities striving to rebuild.
