ZAMBOANGA CITY — A man was killed after he was allegedly stabbed multiple times by another man in the early hours of Sunday, September 6, 2026, in Zone 2, Barangay Mercedes, Zamboanga City.
The victim was identified by authorities as Jay Ar Galvez Rodriguez, of legal age and a resident of the same barangay.
Based on the initial investigation, Rodriguez was reportedly sitting outside a residence in the area when the suspect suddenly appeared and allegedly attacked him without apparent provocation.
Authorities said the suspect repeatedly stabbed the victim, leaving him with fatal injuries.
Rodriguez was reportedly rushed to a hospital for emergency medical treatment. However, due to the severity of the stab wounds he sustained, doctors declared him dead.
The incident immediately prompted police investigators to conduct follow-up operations to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack and establish the motive behind the killing.
Suspect voluntarily surrenders
In a significant development in the case, the alleged attacker voluntarily surrendered to authorities at around 3 p.m. on Sunday, several hours after the stabbing incident.
Police identified the suspect as Mark Concepcion Macario, also known as “Onyok,” 29, and a resident of Barangay Mercedes.
Macario is currently under the custody of the Zamboanga City Police Station 4 (Culianan) as investigators prepare the appropriate case for filing before the court.
Police have not yet disclosed a definitive motive for the attack and said the investigation remains ongoing.
Authorities are expected to interview witnesses and examine other available evidence to determine what led to the stabbing and whether there were other circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
The case serves as another reminder of the deadly consequences of violent confrontations, as police continue efforts to establish accountability and determine the full circumstances behind Rodriguez’s death.
The suspect remains in police custody pending the filing and appropriate disposition of the case. As of the latest police update, authorities have yet to announce the specific criminal charge to be filed against Macario.
