Surigao del Norte Police Provincial Office (SDNPPO) – Over the weekend, local authorities intensified efforts to enforce traffic laws, issuing tickets to 156 violators and collecting a total of Php 52,525.00 in fines. The crackdown focused on ensuring compliance with updated traffic regulations across Surigao City and several municipalities in the province.
The Provincial Operations Unit of the SDNPPO conducted a series of checkpoints and patrols aimed at curbing traffic violations. Among the common offenses were driving unregistered vehicles and operating “colorum” or illegal motorcycles, which authorities say can potentially be used in criminal activities.
Police Colonel Nilo T. Texon, Officer-in-Charge, emphasized that this initiative is part of a broader strategy to prevent road accidents and reduce crime.
“Our preventive measures are crucial to maintaining road safety, reducing street crimes, and stopping the use of unauthorized vehicles by lawless elements,” PCOL Texon said. “We will continue to intensify the enforcement of RA 4136, the Land Transportation and Traffic Code, to ensure the safety and security of our province’s roads.”
Drivers caught violating the traffic laws have been directed to pay their fines at their respective local treasurer’s offices.
The Surigao del Norte Police continue to remind motorists to comply with traffic laws and regulations for the safety and security of all road users.
