Impasugong, Bukidnon – On October 6, 2024, a Mobile Community Support and Sustainment Team (MCSST) of the 8th Infantry Battalion (8IB) successfully recovered an M60 7.62mm machine gun and 200 rounds of live ammunition in So Paningaon, Barangay Mahagsay, San Luis, Agusan del Sur. This significant operation was made possible through a tip-off from two former militias, and was supported by elements of the 26th Infantry (Ever Onward) Battalion (26IB).
The recovery of the high-powered firearm marks a considerable reduction in the firepower of Communist-Terrorist Groups (CTGs) operating in the region, according to officials. The operation also underscores the increasing cooperation between government forces and local communities in efforts to restore peace in insurgency-affected areas.
Lieutenant Colonel Marc Bien Stevens J. Deslate, Commanding Officer of the 8th Infantry (Dependable) Battalion, praised the MCSST for their successful operation and expressed gratitude to the former militias and the 26IB for their critical role in the recovery.
“This achievement reflects the deep desire for peace among the people of Bukidnon,” said LTC Deslate. “It is not only a step towards peace but also an opportunity for those involved in insurgency to reintegrate into society through government programs. The 8th Infantry Battalion remains committed to building public trust and enhancing security through continuous efforts such as these.”
The 8th Infantry Battalion, in coordination with Local Government Units (LGUs) and partner agencies, continues to support the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP). The initiative provides former rebels a pathway to reintegration and a chance to start new lives, contributing to the broader goal of eliminating the remaining CTG elements in Bukidnon.
Authorities reaffirm their commitment to maintaining peace and stability, working hand in hand with the community and various government agencies to address insurgency issues and foster long-term regional development.
