Rebel NPA Member Killed in Armed Encounter in Agusan del Sur

October 24, 2024 | San Luis, Agusan del Sur – A member of the New People’s Army (NPA) was killed, and military forces recovered one high-powered firearm along with personal belongings associated with the rebel group during an encounter on October 22, 2024, in Sitio Tamyang, Barangay Binicalan, San Luis, Agusan del Sur. The clash involved troops from the 26th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army engaging approximately 50 rebels from the Communist Terrorist Group’s Headquarters Force NEO and the Regional Sentro De Gravidad (RSDG) Compaq, part of the North Central Mindanao Regional Committee (NCMRC).

Authorities are currently working to identify the deceased NPA member, whose remains have been secured and taken to one of the local funeral homes in Agusan del Sur.

In a related development, on the previous day, three firearms were also recovered, including an M16 rifle, an AK-47, and an M60 machine gun, along with several magazines and ammunition. These weapons were surrendered and confiscated with the assistance of former NPA members.

The military continues to intensify operations against rebel forces in the region, aiming to maintain peace and security while urging those involved in insurgency to reconsider their choices and reintegrate into society.
