The Department of Energy (DOE) has projected a significant increase in the demand for electricity in the Davao Region over the next few years. According to data presented by Engr. Mark Christian Marollano, Supervising Science Research Specialist at DOE, the demand for electricity in the region is expected to rise from 2023 to 2032.
In a study, the DOE highlighted the need to enhance distribution utilities and power systems to meet this growing demand. The Davao Region is estimated to require 1,056 megawatts of electricity by 2032, compared to the current supply of 976 megawatts.
Engr. Marollano underscored this concern during the Power 101 Training Program on October 14, 2024, pointing out that the region’s economic expansion and ongoing infrastructure projects are driving the need for increased energy capacity.
The DOE has expressed that, while the current energy supply is adequate, it may not be sufficient to meet future demands as the region continues to grow. Efforts are being made to address this potential shortfall and ensure a reliable power supply for the Davao Region’s future development.
