ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — May 13, 2026 — The push for greener and smarter mobility in Zamboanga City gained new momentum as SM City Mindpro officially launched its first electric vehicle charging station (EVCS), marking a significant step toward sustainable urban development in the region.

The launch, held on May 12 at the Level 3 Carpark Building, is the first of its kind in the area and forms part of the broader environmental agenda under the SM Green Movement, which promotes waste reduction, energy efficiency, water conservation, and climate-conscious practices across SM developments nationwide.

The ceremony was attended by Khymer Adan Olaso, alongside City Planning and Development Office Assistant Coordinator Jessie Christopher Lapinid, as well as stakeholders and partners from both the public and private sectors.

In his remarks, Mayor Olaso welcomed the initiative, stressing the importance of collaboration between local government and the private sector in building environmentally responsible communities. He noted that infrastructure supporting clean energy and electric mobility is vital as cities adapt to climate challenges and rising fuel concerns.

For SM City Mindpro, the EV charging station represents more than just a facility—it is a statement of commitment to sustainable progress.

“The launch of our E-Vehicle Charging Station is more than just providing infrastructure for electric vehicles. It symbolizes our commitment to innovation, environmental responsibility, and supporting cleaner mobility solutions for the benefit of future generations,” said SM City Mindpro Mall Manager Aileen Ann Villa-Enriquez.

The EVCS is designed to serve the growing number of electric vehicle users in Zamboanga City, providing accessible charging support while encouraging wider adoption of low-emission transport options. It also aligns with SM Supermalls’ nationwide sustainability programs, which aim to integrate green solutions into commercial and public spaces.

Beyond the EV charging initiative, SM Supermalls continues to implement environmental programs including waste management systems, energy-saving technologies, water conservation efforts, and public awareness campaigns under its sustainability framework.

For residents and visitors, the new facility reinforces SM City Mindpro’s evolving role—not only as a retail and lifestyle destination, but also as a catalyst for environmental responsibility in Western Mindanao.

As electric mobility gains traction in the Philippines, initiatives like this EV charging station signal a gradual but steady shift toward cleaner, more sustainable urban transport systems—driven by cooperation between business, government, and communities.
