Davao City, January 31, 2025 – In a move to uphold law and order ahead of the 2025 National and Local Elections (NLE), a total of 39 firearms with expired registrations were officially turned over to the Carmen Municipal Police Station, Davao del Norte Police Provincial Office (DNPPO). The deposit was made by the Tadeco Company Guard Force (TCGF) in compliance with legal requirements and election security measures.
The firearms handed over for safekeeping include various models of .45 caliber pistols: 23 Colt, seven Remington, one US, one defaced firearm, one Taurus, one Ithaca, two Norinco, two PARA-ORD, and one Springfield. These weapons will remain in police custody while their respective Licenses to Own and Possess Firearms (LTOPF) are being renewed.
This initiative aligns with the directives outlined in the National Headquarters (NHQ) Letters of Instruction (LOI) 49/09 “Bilang Boga” and LOI “KONtra Boga,” which regulate and monitor firearm possession. Additionally, it serves as a preventive measure to avoid violations under the Election Omnibus Code during this crucial period.
Regional Director of the Police Regional Office 11 (PRO 11), PBGEN Leon Victor Z. Rosete, underscored the importance of proper firearms management in maintaining public safety and ensuring a smooth election process.
“We must be vigilant and proactive in ensuring the proper handling and regulation of firearms, especially during the election period, to prevent any untoward incidents or violations. The cooperation of the Tadeco Company Guard Force is a prime example of responsible firearms ownership and the importance of adhering to the law,” said PBGen Rosete.
The deposit of these firearms is part of the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) broader commitment to safeguarding the public and maintaining peace and order during the election season. The PNP continues to encourage security organizations and private firearm holders to adhere to existing regulations to help ensure a safe and orderly electoral process for all citizens.
