Davao City, Philippines – A 33-year-old man has been arrested following a brutal attack on his parents in Purok 7, New Masbate, Barangay Inayangan, Calinan District, on Friday morning, January 3, 2025. The incident resulted in the death of his father and severe injuries to his mother.
According to the initial investigation by the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), the suspect, identified only as “Jickie Pancho Bato,” attacked his 71-year-old father, Ernesto Silgas Bato, with a bolo while the latter was cutting wood outside their home at around 7:30 AM. The father sustained fatal injuries to his shoulder and neck, leading to his immediate death.
Following the attack on his father, the suspect entered their house and struck his 58-year-old mother, Elizabeth Bato, on the head with the same weapon. She was quickly rushed to the hospital by Central 911 responders and is currently receiving treatment for her injuries.
Authorities from the Calinan Police Station launched a hot pursuit operation shortly after the incident, which led to the arrest of the suspect within hours.
Initial findings revealed that the attack stemmed from a heated argument between the suspect and his parents. Reports indicate that his parents had urged him to find a job, which reportedly angered him and triggered the violent outburst.
The suspect now faces charges of parricide for the death of his father and frustrated parricide for the attack on his mother.
The Calinan Police Station continues to investigate the incident to gather further details and ensure justice for the victims.
