Surigao del Norte Police Provincial Office (SDNPPO) — In a decisive operation against illegal drugs, the Dapa Municipal Police Station (MPS) successfully apprehended a high-value individual (HVI) and confiscated over PHP 1 million worth of suspected shabu during a buy-bust operation conducted earlier today in Purok 1, Barangay 13, Poblacion, Dapa, Surigao del Norte.

Texon, Officer In-Charge of the SDNPPO, the suspect had been categorized as a high-value individual due to his significant involvement in the local drug trade.

Law enforcement officers recovered a total of 31 sachets of suspected shabu weighing 150.7899 grams, with an estimated street value of PHP 1,025,371.32. Additionally, the authorities seized PHP 3,500 in marked buy-bust money, a water pipe, and assorted drug paraphernalia during the operation.

“I commend the Dapa Police for their exceptional work in this operation, reflecting our commitment to a drug-free Surigao del Norte. This achievement highlights our dedication to protecting citizens and ensuring peace and safety in our province,” stated PCOL Texon.

The suspect and the confiscated items are now in the custody of the Dapa Municipal Police Station for proper disposition. Authorities confirmed that the suspect will face charges for violating Republic Act No. 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

This successful operation is part of a series of intensified anti-drug campaigns in Siargao Island, where Dapa is located. The region, known for its picturesque beaches and status as a top tourist destination, has seen an uptick in drug-related activities in recent years. The growing prevalence of drug use and trafficking poses a significant concern, particularly in areas frequented by both locals and international visitors.

Police officials have expressed their commitment to curbing the illegal drug trade on the island, emphasizing the importance of preserving the safety and reputation of Siargao as a premier travel destination. This latest operation underscores the heightened vigilance of local law enforcement in addressing the complex challenges posed by the intersection of drug use and tourism.
