TUBAY, Agusan del Norte — In a gesture of solidarity with coastal communities, the Philippine Coast Guard distributed food packs to local fisherfolk in the seawaters of Barangays La Fraternidad and Bayawa in Tubay, Agusan del Norte, on October 17, 2026, as part of its continuing efforts to support communities whose livelihoods depend on the sea.

The initiative, dubbed “Bayanihan sa Karagatan: A Little Help, A Big Difference!”, was conducted by the Coast Guard Station Agusan del Norte (CGS ADN), through Coast Guard Sub-Station Tubay, as part of the pre-anniversary activities leading to the seventh founding anniversary of the Coast Guard District Northeastern Mindanao (CGDNEM).
Through the distribution of food packs, the activity sought to extend practical assistance to local fisherfolk while recognizing their vital role in sustaining coastal livelihoods and contributing to the local economy. For families that depend on daily fishing, even modest assistance can help ease some of the immediate demands of providing for their households.
Beyond the distribution of relief goods, the initiative highlighted the importance of building stronger relationships between the Coast Guard and the communities it serves. Coastal residents and fisherfolk are among the people whose daily activities are closely connected to the marine environment, making community engagement an important part of efforts to promote safety, cooperation, and public service along the country’s coastlines.
The activity also reflected the Coast Guard’s broader commitment to extending its presence beyond maritime security and law enforcement through initiatives that respond to the needs of coastal communities.
As one of the activities leading to the CGDNEM’s seventh founding anniversary, “Bayanihan sa Karagatan” underscored the value of community-centered service and collective action. It conveyed the message that public service is not limited to responding to emergencies or enforcing maritime regulations but can also be demonstrated through simple acts of assistance and solidarity.
The Coast Guard expressed the spirit behind the initiative through the message: “Sa bawat alon ng karagatan, may malasakit na hatid sa ating mga kababayan!” — a reminder that compassion and service can reach communities whose lives and livelihoods are shaped by the sea.
For the fisherfolk of La Fraternidad and Bayawa, the activity brought assistance directly to their coastal communities while reinforcing the importance of partnerships between public institutions and the people they serve.
As the CGDNEM prepares to mark its seventh founding anniversary, the initiative offers a community-focused example of how small acts of generosity can help strengthen public trust, cooperation, and solidarity among the people who share and depend on the country’s coastal waters.
