A 30-year-old construction worker was shot dead by an unidentified gunman while riding his motorcycle in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay, on the evening of September 7, 2026.

The victim was identified as Norman Lamorinas, 30, an employee of Badsbro Construction and a resident of Barangay Danlugan, Buug, Zamboanga Sibugay.
According to the initial investigation of the Ipil Municipal Police Station (Ipil MPS), Lamorinas was traveling toward Barangay Pangi aboard his red Suzuki Raider motorcycle, bearing plate number J707RF, after coming from Barangay Guituan.
At around 7:30 p.m., while passing through Purok African Daisy, Barangay Pangi, an unidentified assailant suddenly fired at him.
Lamorinas sustained a gunshot wound to the right side of his body.
After the shooting, the gunman immediately fled toward the direction of Barangay Pangi aboard a black Mio 125 motorcycle without a plate number, according to police.
Lamorinas was rushed to the Dr. George T. Hofer Medical Center in Tenan for emergency medical treatment. However, he was declared dead by the attending physician, Dr. Abdul-Rahib H. Ismael.
Police investigators and Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) processed the area following the shooting. An empty shell believed to be from a caliber .45 firearm was recovered from the crime scene and documented as evidence.
Following the incident, the Ipil MPS immediately launched hot-pursuit and follow-up operations in an effort to identify and locate the fleeing gunman.
The operation was conducted under the leadership of Police Major Marjan M. Sali, OIC of the Ipil MPS, with personnel from the Provincial Intelligence Unit (PIU) and the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company (2nd PMFC).
Neighboring police stations also implemented dragnet operations in areas where the suspect may have passed in an effort to prevent his escape and facilitate his possible arrest.
As of the latest police information provided, the identity of the gunman and the motive behind the shooting remain undetermined.
Authorities are continuing their investigation, including efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack, identify the person responsible and determine the motive for the killing.
Police are also expected to examine available evidence from the crime scene and other information gathered during the follow-up operations as the investigation progresses.
The shooting adds to the string of violent incidents requiring immediate police response in the province, but authorities have yet to establish whether the killing was related to any other incident or conflict.
The police urged anyone with information that could help identify the suspect or clarify the circumstances of the shooting to coordinate with the appropriate authorities.
