Mindanao is expected to experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with rain showers and localized thunderstorms over the next 24 hours, with the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warning that severe thunderstorms could trigger flash floods and landslides in vulnerable areas.

In its Regional Weather Forecast for the Mindanao PAGASA Regional Services Division (MINPRSD), issued at 5:00 a.m. on August 22, 2026, the weather agency said the forecast would be valid from 5:00 a.m. Saturday until 5:00 a.m. Sunday.

PAGASA said rain showers or thunderstorms may develop across Mindanao, including the Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, SOCCSKSARGEN, Caraga, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

The agency specifically cautioned communities against possible flash floods and landslides associated with severe thunderstorms. Areas near rivers, creeks, steep slopes and other flood- or landslide-prone locations may face increased risks during periods of intense rainfall.

Residents and motorists are advised to remain alert for sudden changes in weather conditions, particularly when thunderstorms develop. Localized heavy rainfall may occur even in areas that initially experience only partly cloudy skies.

Across the Zamboanga Peninsula, Zamboanga City is forecast to experience partly cloudy skies becoming cloudy at times, with rain showers or thunderstorms and temperatures ranging from 24°C to 34°C. Zamboanga del Norte is expected to see temperatures between 25°C and 34°C, while Zamboanga del Sur may range from 24°C to 33°C. Zamboanga Sibugay is forecast to record 25°C to 33°C, while Isabela City may experience temperatures between 24°C and 34°C.

Northern Mindanao will likewise remain vulnerable to rain showers and thunderstorms. Bukidnon is expected to have temperatures between 19°C and 29°C, while Camiguin may range from 26°C to 35°C. Lanao del Norte is forecast at 21°C to 31°C, Misamis Occidental at 24°C to 31°C, and Misamis Oriental at 26°C to 33°C.

In the Davao Region, Metro Davao is expected to experience temperatures of 25°C to 31°C, while Davao del Norte may range from 24°C to 34°C. Davao del Sur is forecast at 22°C to 33°C, and Davao Oriental at 22°C to 30°C.

The latest forecast also covers Davao de Oro and Davao Occidental, both of which are expected to experience partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with rain showers or thunderstorms. Davao de Oro may record temperatures between 22°C and 32°C, while Davao Occidental is expected to range from 25°C to 32°C.

In SOCCSKSARGEN, North Cotabato is forecast to experience temperatures between 23°C and 33°C. South Cotabato may range from 23°C to 31°C, Sultan Kudarat from 22°C to 32°C, and Sarangani from 24°C to 33°C. Rain showers or thunderstorms remain possible across the region.

Caraga will also see generally similar conditions. Agusan del Norte is forecast at 24°C to 34°C, Agusan del Sur at 24°C to 34°C, Surigao del Norte at 28°C to 35°C, Surigao del Sur at 23°C to 34°C, and Dinagat Islands at 27°C to 34°C.

The BARMM forecast includes Cotabato City, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao del Norte and Maguindanao del Sur. Cotabato City is expected to experience temperatures between 25°C and 34°C, while Basilan may range from 22°C to 34°C. Lanao del Sur is forecast at 23°C to 31°C.

In the island provinces, Sulu may experience temperatures between 25°C and 35°C, while Tawi-Tawi is expected to range from 27°C to 34°C. Maguindanao del Norte may record 24°C to 34°C, while Maguindanao del Sur is forecast at 25°C to 34°C.

Winds across Mindanao are expected to remain light to moderate and generally blow from the south to southwest.

For coastal areas covered by the forecast, sea conditions are expected to be slight to moderate, with wave heights generally ranging from 0.6 to 2.1 meters. The conditions may still pose challenges to small sea vessels, particularly during thunderstorms and periods of sudden weather deterioration.

PAGASA’s forecast indicates that the unsettled weather will not be confined to a single province or locality, underscoring the need for communities across Mindanao to monitor local weather advisories throughout the day.

Authorities and residents in flood- and landslide-prone communities are urged to take appropriate precautions whenever thunderstorms bring intense rainfall. Travelers are also advised to exercise caution on roads, particularly in mountainous and low-lying areas where flooding, poor visibility or landslides may occur.

PAGASA said the forecast remains subject to changes as weather conditions evolve and advised the public to monitor its official weather bulletins for the latest information.
