CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, June 8, 2026 — Residents across Mindanao are advised to remain vigilant as localized thunderstorms are expected to affect large portions of the island over the next 24 hours, according to the latest Regional Weather Forecast issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) Mindanao Regional Services Division (MINPRSD).

In its 5:00 a.m. weather bulletin on Monday, PAGASA reported that localized thunderstorms remain the dominant weather system affecting Mindanao, bringing partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms across all regions of the island.

While much of Mindanao will experience generally fair weather conditions during the day, PAGASA warned that sudden thunderstorms may develop, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours, posing risks of flash floods and landslides in vulnerable and low-lying areas.

“Mindanao will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms. Possible flash floods or landslides may occur during severe thunderstorms,” PAGASA said.

Zamboanga Peninsula Braces for Intermittent Rain

In the Zamboanga Peninsula, including Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Isabela City, weather conditions are expected to remain partly cloudy to cloudy with intermittent rain showers and thunderstorms.

Temperatures across the region are forecast to range from 24°C to 35°C, with the warmest conditions expected in Zamboanga City and Zamboanga del Norte. Coastal waters will remain slight to moderate, while light to moderate winds from the southeast to south will prevail.

Northern Mindanao to Experience Warm and Humid Conditions

The provinces of Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, and Misamis Oriental are also expected to experience isolated rain showers and thunderstorms.

Bukidnon is forecast to register temperatures between 25°C and 33°C, while Misamis Oriental and Camiguin may see temperatures reaching up to 32°C. Weather authorities cautioned residents, particularly those living near rivers and mountain slopes, to monitor weather developments as thunderstorms can trigger localized flooding.

Davao Region Under Thunderstorm Threat

The entire Davao Region, including Metro Davao, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, and Davao Occidental, will continue to experience unstable weather conditions.

Forecast temperatures are expected to range from 23°C to 34°C, with Davao de Oro and Davao del Norte anticipated to experience the highest daytime temperatures. PAGASA noted that thunderstorms may bring brief periods of heavy rainfall, strong winds, and lightning activity.

SOCCSKSARGEN and BARMM Areas Advised to Stay Alert

Residents in North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Sarangani are likewise expected to experience isolated thunderstorms.

North Cotabato could record temperatures as high as 35°C, making it one of the warmest areas in Mindanao during the forecast period.

Meanwhile, provinces under the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), including Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao del Norte, Maguindanao del Sur, Lanao del Sur, and Cotabato City, will also experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with occasional rain showers and thunderstorms.

Temperatures across BARMM are expected to range between 23°C and 32°C.

Caraga Region Faces Similar Weather Conditions

The provinces of Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Dinagat Islands are also expected to experience isolated rain showers and thunderstorms.

Agusan del Norte may register temperatures reaching up to 36°C, making it the hottest area in Mindanao based on PAGASA’s latest forecast.

Despite generally calm sea conditions, coastal communities and fisherfolk are advised to remain cautious during thunderstorms, which can rapidly intensify and create hazardous conditions at sea.

Sea Conditions Remain Generally Favorable

Across Mindanao, winds will be light to moderate, blowing from the southeast to south. Coastal waters are expected to remain slight to moderate, with wave heights ranging from 0.6 to 1.5 meters.

These conditions remain generally favorable for small fishing vessels and sea travel; however, PAGASA emphasized that thunderstorms can still generate sudden strong winds and rough seas.

Public Advisory

PAGASA urged residents throughout Mindanao to stay updated with official weather bulletins, particularly those living in flood-prone and landslide-prone communities.

Authorities also advised the public to take precautionary measures during thunderstorms, including avoiding open areas, seeking shelter from lightning, and monitoring local government advisories for any weather-related emergencies.

The weather bureau continues to closely monitor atmospheric conditions affecting Mindanao and will issue updates as necessary.
