CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has warned residents across Mindanao to remain vigilant as localized thunderstorms are expected to affect large portions of the island from Tuesday morning until Wednesday morning.

According to the Regional Weather Forecast issued by PAGASA’s Mindanao Regional Services Division (MINPRSD) at 5:00 a.m. on June 9, Mindanao will generally experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms throughout the forecast period.
While much of the day may appear fair, weather authorities emphasized that severe thunderstorms could develop suddenly, bringing intense rainfall that may trigger flash floods in low-lying areas and landslides in mountainous and landslide-prone communities.
PAGASA said light to moderate winds blowing from the southeast to southwest will prevail across the island. Coastal waters are expected to remain slight to moderate, with wave heights ranging from 0.6 to 1.5 meters, making sea travel generally safe but requiring caution during thunderstorm activity.
Zamboanga Peninsula
Residents in Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Isabela City can expect partly cloudy skies that may become cloudy at times, accompanied by rain showers and thunderstorms.
Daytime temperatures are forecast to range from 24°C to 34°C, with Zamboanga del Norte expected to record some of the highest temperatures in the region.
Northern Mindanao
The provinces of Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, and Misamis Oriental will also experience isolated rain showers and thunderstorms.
Temperatures are expected to reach as high as 34°C in Camiguin and Misamis Occidental, while Bukidnon will remain relatively cooler, with temperatures ranging between 22°C and 33°C.
Davao Region
Across Metro Davao, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, and Davao Occidental, residents should prepare for intermittent thunderstorms despite periods of sunny weather.
Davao del Norte is expected to be among the hottest areas in Mindanao, with temperatures reaching up to 35°C during the daytime. Most areas in the region will experience temperatures ranging from 25°C to 34°C.
SOCCSKSARGEN
The provinces of North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Sarangani will continue to experience unstable weather conditions characterized by isolated rain showers and thunderstorms.
North Cotabato may record temperatures as high as 35°C, while other provinces in the region are expected to experience temperatures ranging from 23°C to 33°C.
Caraga Region
PAGASA forecasts similar weather conditions over Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Dinagat Islands.
Agusan del Norte is projected to be one of the warmest areas in Mindanao, with temperatures reaching up to 36°C, the highest forecast temperature across the island. Thunderstorms remain possible, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours.
BARMM Areas
The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), including Cotabato City, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao del Norte, and Maguindanao del Sur, will also experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms.
Temperatures across the region will range from 22°C to 33°C, while coastal areas will continue to experience slight to moderate sea conditions.
Public Advised to Stay Alert
PAGASA urged residents, especially those living near rivers, creeks, coastal communities, and landslide-prone areas, to monitor weather updates and remain alert for sudden thunderstorms that may develop throughout the day.
Motorists are advised to exercise caution during periods of heavy rainfall, while fishermen and small sea craft operators are encouraged to monitor local weather conditions before venturing out to sea.
Although no tropical cyclone is currently affecting Mindanao, weather experts noted that localized thunderstorms can still produce heavy downpours, strong winds, lightning, and reduced visibility that may pose risks to communities and travelers.
PAGASA continues to monitor weather conditions across Mindanao and advises the public to stay informed through official forecasts and advisories.
