DUMALINAO, Zamboanga del Sur — May 6, 2026 — What was meant to be a simple sideline to earn extra income ended in tragedy for a 23-year-old security guard who died after falling from a tree while harvesting honey in Barangay Baga on May 3.

The victim, identified as Carlo Llemit, a resident of Barangay Cuatro-Cuatro, was reportedly documenting his honey hunting activity through a vlog moments before the fatal incident.
According to initial reports, Llemit had successfully harvested honey from a first hive and even recorded the moment on video. Encouraged by the initial success, he proceeded to climb a balete tree to collect honey from a second hive.
However, while already at a considerable height, Llemit was suddenly attacked by a swarm of bees. The unexpected assault caused him to lose his grip and balance, leading to a fall that resulted in severe injuries, including multiple fractures and wounds across his body.
Witnesses and responders rushed the victim to a nearby hospital, where doctors attempted to save his life. Despite their efforts, Llemit was declared dead due to the extent of his injuries.
Family members and friends expressed deep shock and grief, saying they never imagined that what appeared to be a routine sideline activity—and even a moment of content creation—would become his last.
Reports indicate that Llemit had taken up honey hunting as a means to supplement his income, a common practice in rural areas but one that carries significant risks, especially when done without proper safety gear or protective equipment.
Authorities have launched an investigation to further determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The tragedy has sparked renewed calls for public awareness regarding the dangers of honey hunting, particularly when conducted at high elevations or without adequate protection against bee attacks.
Llemit’s death serves as a sobering reminder of the risks many individuals take in pursuit of additional livelihood. What began as a hopeful effort to earn more for daily needs ultimately cost him his life.
He is scheduled to be laid to rest on May 7, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. at the Cuatro-Cuatro Cemetery, where family, friends, and community members are expected to gather to pay their final respects.
