A 46-year-old man died after he was allegedly struck in the head with a large stone by his neighbor inside his residence in Purok Bakhaw A, Barangay Kawit, Pagadian City, on the night of November 5, 2026.
The incident occurred at around 9:40 p.m., shortly after the victim had celebrated his birthday with guests, including the suspect, who was reportedly a close neighbor and someone he had allowed to stay in his home out of compassion.
Police identified the victim by the alias “Sadam,” a married 46-year-old man, while the suspect was identified as alias “Dagol,” reportedly in his 30s.
Initial police information indicated that the victim had hosted a birthday gathering and even shared food with the suspect. After the celebration, the victim went to sleep inside his house. However, the suspect allegedly entered the residence and suddenly struck him in the head with a large stone.
The attack left the victim with critical head injuries. He was immediately rushed to Aisah Medical Hospital for emergency treatment but was later declared dead by the attending physician.
Separate accounts from the victim’s family alleged that the suspect had previously been allowed to stay with the victim after reportedly being evicted from his rented accommodation. The family also claimed that the suspect had been experiencing mental health problems and allegedly using prohibited drugs. These claims have yet to be independently established and should form part of the ongoing police investigation.
Following the incident, responding police officers, with the assistance and cooperation of Barangay Kawit officials and barangay tanods, apprehended the suspect.
He is currently under police custody at the Pagadian City Police Station as authorities continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal attack and determining the appropriate charges.
The incident has raised concerns over the circumstances that led to a fatal act of violence inside a home, particularly as the victim had reportedly welcomed the suspect into his residence and included him in his birthday celebration.
Authorities have yet to release further details regarding the suspect’s motive. The investigation remains ongoing.
