KALILANGAN, Bukidnon — A 41-year-old man was arrested after authorities discovered an unlicensed firearm and ammunition during a checkpoint operation in Barangay Lampanusan on the afternoon of April 25, 2026.

The suspect, identified only by the alias “Arnulfo,” is a resident of the same barangay where the incident occurred.
According to police reports, personnel from the Bukidnon 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company, in coordination with the Kalilangan Municipal Police Station, were conducting a strategic checkpoint in Purok 2 when they flagged down a motorcycle driven by the suspect. The vehicle had no license plate, and the driver was not wearing a helmet—both violations that prompted authorities to conduct a closer inspection.
During the routine verification of documents, operatives spotted a short firearm in the suspect’s possession along with a magazine. When asked to present legal documents authorizing him to carry the weapon, the suspect failed to provide any, leading to his immediate arrest.
Seized from the suspect were a caliber .45 pistol, three steel magazines, and 15 rounds of live ammunition.
Authorities ensured that the suspect was informed of his constitutional rights at the time of arrest. An inventory of the confiscated items was conducted on-site in the presence of barangay officials, in accordance with standard operating procedures.
The suspect and the recovered evidence were subsequently brought to the Kalilangan Municipal Police Station for proper documentation and disposition.
Charges for violation of Republic Act No. 10591, also known as the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, are being prepared against the suspect.
Police authorities reiterated their call for strict compliance with firearm regulations, emphasizing that checkpoint operations remain a key measure in preventing the proliferation of loose firearms and ensuring public safety across communities.
