VALENCIA CITY, Bukidnon — A 17-year-old boy was rushed to the hospital after he was struck by lightning during a thunderstorm on Thursday afternoon, January 8, 2026, in Purok Hidangon, Barangay Poblacion, Valencia City.
The victim, identified by the alias “Marvin,” is a resident of the area. The incident happened at around 3:20 p.m. as heavy rain and thunderstorms battered the city.
According to initial reports, Marvin was outside their house when a powerful bolt of lightning suddenly hit the area, knocking him down and causing burns and minor injuries. He was immediately brought to a nearby hospital by his family and barangay responders for medical treatment.
While the teenager survived the incident, his pet horse was not as fortunate. The animal died on the spot after being directly struck by lightning during the same incident.
Hospital authorities said Marvin is now in stable condition and is under close observation due to the burns and injuries he sustained.
Local disaster officials have once again reminded the public to exercise extreme caution during thunderstorms, advising residents to avoid open areas, tall trees, bodies of water, and animals during lightning activity to prevent similar incidents.
Authorities continue to urge the public to heed weather advisories and prioritize safety during severe weather conditions.
