DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Mindanao will continue to experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms as easterlies prevail over the region, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in its latest Regional Weather Forecast issued at 5:00 a.m. on January 8, 2026.

According to PAGASA’s Mindanao – MINPRSD office, the prevailing easterlies will affect most provinces in Mindanao from 5:00 a.m. today until 5:00 a.m. tomorrow, bringing intermittent rains and thunderstorms, particularly in the afternoon and evening.

The weather bureau warned that flash floods and landslides are possible during severe thunderstorms, especially in low-lying and mountainous areas. Residents are advised to stay alert and monitor local advisories.

Zamboanga Peninsula: Intermittent Rains Expected

Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Isabela City are all forecast to experience partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with rainshowers or thunderstorms.

Temperatures in the peninsula will range from 22°C to 33°C, with light to moderate winds from the northeast to north. Coastal waters are expected to be slight to moderate, making sea travel generally safe but still requiring caution, especially during thunderstorms.

Northern Mindanao: Cool Nights, Isolated Downpours

Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, and Misamis Oriental will also see similar weather conditions. PAGASA said Bukidnon may experience cooler temperatures, dropping to 19°C, while daytime highs could reach 32°C.

Coastal areas in Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, and Misamis provinces will have slight to moderate seas, with wind conditions remaining light to moderate from the northeast to north.

Davao Region: Scattered Thunderstorms, Rough Seas in the South

In the Davao Region, including Metro Davao, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, and Davao Occidental, PAGASA forecasts partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms.

Temperatures across the region may range from 22°C to 34°C, with Davao del Norte and South Cotabato areas potentially reaching the higher end of the scale.

PAGASA noted that coastal waters in Davao del Sur may become moderate to rough, prompting fishermen and small sea craft operators to exercise caution. Elsewhere in the region, seas will be slight to moderate.

SOCCSKSARGEN: Warm Days, Possible Heavy Rains

North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Sarangani will experience similar conditions, with temperatures ranging from 21°C to 34°C.

South Cotabato and Sarangani may experience warmer daytime temperatures, while isolated heavy downpours may trigger localized flooding in flood-prone areas.

Caraga Region: Coastal Areas to Remain Alert

Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Dinagat Islands will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with rainshowers or thunderstorms.

Temperatures in Caraga will range from 21°C to 34°C, while coastal waters remain slight to moderate. PAGASA advised coastal communities, particularly in Surigao provinces and Dinagat Islands, to remain vigilant as thunderstorms may develop rapidly.

BARMM: Widespread Showers, Watch for Flooding

In the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), including Cotabato City, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, Maguindanao del Sur, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi, the weather bureau also forecasts partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

Temperatures may range from 20°C to 34°C, with coastal areas experiencing slight to moderate seas. PAGASA warned that communities near rivers, slopes, and coastal zones should be alert for possible flash floods, landslides, and rough sea conditions during thunderstorms.

PAGASA Advisory

PAGASA urged the public, local government units, disaster risk reduction offices, and the maritime sector to continuously monitor weather updates and prepare for sudden changes in weather conditions.

“Isolated thunderstorms can still bring heavy rains in a short period of time, which may lead to flooding and landslides,” PAGASA said.
