DAVAO CITY — A 29-year-old private security guard was injured after accidentally discharging his issued firearm while on duty in Davao City on Monday afternoon, September 22.

The Davao City Police Office identified the guard only as “Zaldy,” a resident of San Vicente, Buhangin. Initial investigation revealed that at around 2:30 p.m., the guard was cleaning his issued firearm, an Armscor 9mm pistol, when it suddenly went off.

The bullet pierced through the guard’s left palm and exited, hitting a glass wall inside the office where he was assigned. He was immediately given first aid by the company’s safety officer before being rushed to a hospital for further treatment.

Authorities said the firearm was loaded with a magazine containing six live rounds at the time of the incident. Police also recovered one spent shell and a deformed slug from the scene, which are now under their custody for proper disposition.

The DCPO reminded firearm holders, especially security personnel, to observe strict safety protocols when handling and cleaning their service weapons to prevent similar accidents.
