OZAMIZ CITY – July 28, 2025 — Authorities in Ozamiz City intensified their crackdown on illegal gambling with the arrest of seven individuals involved in unauthorized Peryahan games during a police raid conducted in Barangay Maningcol.
The operation, carried out on July 26, was led by the Ozamiz City Police Station (CPS) under the command of PLTCOL Harvey S. Abellanosa. Police acted swiftly on reports from concerned residents regarding rampant illegal gambling activities in the area.
The suspects, whose identities have not yet been disclosed pending further investigation, were caught in the act and are now facing charges for violating Presidential Decree 1602, which mandates stricter penalties for illegal gambling operations.
PLTCOL Abellanosa reiterated the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) commitment to uphold public order and ensure that Ozamiz remains a safe and law-abiding city. He also highlighted the crucial support of the Local Government Unit (LGU) in the campaign against all forms of illegal gambling.
“This operation reflects our joint effort with the LGU to send a strong message that illegal gambling has no place in our community,” Abellanosa said.
Authorities urged the public to remain vigilant and report similar illegal activities to help sustain peace and order in the city.
