ZAMBOANGA SIBUGAY — Police arrested two men in separate gun-related threat incidents in Ipil and Siay, Zamboanga Sibugay, after authorities responded to reports of motorists and residents allegedly being threatened with firearms.

The incidents, which involved the alleged unlawful possession and use of firearms, resulted in the confiscation of two pistols and live ammunition. Police said the operations underscored the importance of prompt response to public complaints and cooperation between law enforcement and communities in preventing potential violence.

Truck driver arrested after alleged roadside gun threat

In Ipil, a 38-year-old truck driver was arrested in the early hours of October 27, 2026, after he allegedly pointed a firearm at and threatened another motorist while their vehicles were alongside each other.

The complainant sought police assistance at around 1:50 a.m., proceeding to the Tiayon Checkpoint and Assistance Center (COMPAC) after fearing for his safety.

Responding personnel immediately intercepted the suspect’s trailer truck and conducted an inspection. Police recovered a 9mm pistol loaded with 10 rounds of live ammunition from the truck’s cabin.

The driver was unable to present valid documents authorizing him to possess and carry the firearm, prompting his arrest. He and the confiscated weapon were subsequently brought to the Ipil Municipal Police Station for documentation, proper disposition, and further investigation.

Siay police recover .45-caliber pistol after grave threat report

In a separate incident in Siay, police arrested another suspect following a report of a grave threat involving an allegedly armed individual.

Acting on information provided by a concerned citizen, personnel of the Siay Municipal Police Station promptly proceeded to the reported location, where the victim identified the alleged suspect.

Initial investigation indicated that the suspect allegedly pointed a short firearm at the victim without apparent provocation.

During the police response, personnel recovered an STI Ranger II pistol chambered in .45 caliber from the rear portion of the suspect’s residence. The firearm had one magazine containing seven rounds of live ammunition.

The suspect reportedly failed to present valid documents authorizing the possession and carrying of the weapon. Police brought the suspect and recovered firearm to the Siay Municipal Police Station for proper disposition.

The firearm and ammunition were secured for documentation, while verification with the Regional Civil Security Unit (RCSU) was requested to establish the weapon’s registration and the validity of any applicable authorizations.

Provincial police chief stresses swift response and public cooperation

Police Provincial Director PCOL Barnard Danie V. Dasugo commended the responding personnel in both incidents, emphasizing that timely police action, vigilance, and community cooperation are essential to maintaining peace and order.

Following the Ipil incident, Dasugo stressed that the quick response of police and the public’s immediate decision to seek assistance helped prevent the situation from potentially escalating.

He also underscored the need to sustain police operations to protect residents and preserve public safety.

In connection with the Siay incident, the provincial director praised the responding officers for their prompt action, describing their performance as an example of preparedness, vigilance, teamwork, and effective law enforcement.

Dasugo encouraged residents to report threats, suspicious behavior, and other potentially criminal activities to authorities without delay.

The Zamboanga Sibugay Police Provincial Office (ZSBPPO) reiterated its commitment to responding promptly to reports of threats and other criminal activities, strengthening police-community cooperation, and upholding the rule of law.

Authorities urged the public to report emergencies and immediate threats to the nearest police station or call 911.

The two incidents remain separate cases, and further investigation and verification of the recovered firearms are part of the police procedures. The allegations against the suspects remain subject to the appropriate legal process.
