OZAMIZ CITY – A Philippine Airlines (PAL) flight encountered mechanical trouble upon landing early Monday morning, June 16, 2025, causing a temporary halt in all flight operations at the Ozamiz City Airport.

According to initial reports, the aircraft came to an abrupt stop in the middle of the airport’s lone runway after experiencing a technical issue. This unexpected incident blocked incoming and outgoing flights, affecting several scheduled operations.
Philippine Airlines confirmed that Flight PR2889, which originated from Manila, landed safely at 6:14 AM but was unable to taxi to the terminal due to a nose wheel steering problem. All 161 passengers were able to deplane safely.
Emergency response teams were immediately deployed to the site as a precautionary measure, while aviation authorities launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the malfunction.
In a follow-up statement, PAL announced that the aircraft was successfully removed from the runway by 3:11 PM.
“The runway at Ozamiz Airport (OZC) has been fully cleared following the temporary obstruction earlier this morning involving Philippine Airlines Flight PR2889 (Manila–Ozamiz). The aircraft, which encountered a technical issue upon landing, has been safely moved off the runway in coordination with airport authorities.
“We thank the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), ground personnel, and local airport authorities for their prompt response and support. Philippine Airlines remains committed to upholding the highest standards of safety and operational efficiency,” the airline said.
Normal airport operations have since resumed. Passengers affected by the disruption are advised to contact their airline representatives for further flight updates or rebooking arrangements.
