CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — Two sets of suspected human skeletal remains were discovered by construction workers while excavating a road at Purok 7 Old Road, Barangay Gusa, prompting a police investigation to establish the identities of the remains and determine their possible origins.

The skeletal remains were reportedly uncovered by a leadman of a construction company while workers were carrying out excavation activities at the site. The discovery immediately prompted the construction workers to alert authorities.
Police personnel responded to the area and initiated an investigation, joined by personnel of the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO), who conducted an examination of the discovery site and documented the recovered remains.
The bones have since been placed under the custody of authorities pending a Post-Mortem Forensic Anthropology Examination, which is expected to help determine whether the remains are human, establish their biological characteristics, and potentially provide clues to the identities of the individuals.
Forensic anthropological examination can help investigators assess skeletal features, including estimated age, sex, stature, and possible signs of trauma, depending on the condition and completeness of the recovered remains. These findings may also assist authorities in determining whether further forensic identification procedures are necessary.
As of the latest available information, the identities of the two individuals remain undetermined. Authorities have yet to establish how long the remains had been buried at the location, the circumstances surrounding their deaths, or whether the discoveries are connected to any previously reported missing-person cases.
The discovery has raised questions about the history of the site, but investigators have not disclosed any findings that would establish the circumstances behind the deaths.
Authorities are expected to rely on the results of the forensic examination and other investigative procedures before drawing conclusions about the identities and possible origins of the skeletal remains.
The investigation remains ongoing.
