Valencia City, Bukidnon – Two of the newest hiking destinations in Bukidnon—Mt. Kalo-kalo and Mt. Pigngalngalan—were officially opened for ecotourism activities through an “Opening Climb” event held on April 26–27, 2025. The event attracted more than 100 hikers from various parts of Mindanao, marking a significant step in promoting adventure tourism in the region.

The opening was spearheaded by the Valencia City Tourism and Cultural Affairs Division, with the support of the Mt. Kalatungan Range Natural Park (MKaRNP) Protected Area Management Board, Barangay Lourdes Council, local Indigenous community members, trained tour guides, and the outdoor adventure group Discover Valencia.

This initiative aims to boost local ecotourism while preserving the environment and celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the area. Barangay Lourdes, the gateway to both mountains, is now being promoted as a safe, eco-friendly, and adventure-filled destination. In addition to the hiking trails, the community also reopened the scenic Tres Marias Waterfalls to the public.

The Valencia City Tourism and Cultural Affairs Division expressed optimism that the number of visitors will continue to grow in the coming months. They envision the new trail system becoming a pillar of sustainable tourism development for the city and the province.
