Talakag, Bukidnon – Authorities have launched an intensive investigation after the body of a newborn infant was discovered abandoned inside a trash bag near the Municipal Plaza in Barangay 2, Talakag, Bukidnon, in a heartbreaking incident that has left residents grieving and demanding justice.
According to initial reports, the lifeless infant was found on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at approximately 1:20 p.m., within the vicinity of the town’s municipal plaza. The newborn, believed to have been recently delivered, was reportedly placed inside a trash bag and left in the area under circumstances that remain under investigation.
The Talakag Municipal Police Station is conducting a thorough investigation to determine the identity of the individual or individuals responsible for abandoning the infant. Investigators are expected to review available evidence, including possible CCTV footage in nearby establishments and information from residents, in an effort to identify the child’s mother or any other persons involved.
As of this writing, authorities have yet to release details regarding the infant’s cause of death, pending further examination and the ongoing investigation.
In a compassionate gesture amid the tragedy, the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Talakag announced that the unidentified infant has been given the name “Baby Angel.”
The LGU confirmed that Baby Angel’s remains are currently lying in state at St. Bernard Funeral Homes in Barangay 3, Talakag, where members of the public are welcome to offer prayers and pay their final respects.
The local government also announced that, since no relatives or lawful claimants have come forward to identify or claim the child, it will shoulder all expenses for the infant’s burial. Details of the simple burial rites will be announced once finalized.
In its public statement, the LGU expressed sympathy over the tragic incident and appealed to the community to join in honoring the short life of the infant.
