TALAKAG, Bukidnon – Two former members of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) voluntarily surrendered to authorities and turned over their firearms in Talakag, Bukidnon, marking another milestone in the government’s intensified campaign to end local communist armed conflict in Northern Mindanao.
The surrender took place at around 3:40 p.m. on July 20, 2026, at the headquarters of the 1004th Maneuver Company (MC), Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB) 10, located in Sitio Masimag, Barangay Tagbak, Talakag, Bukidnon.
The successful operation was carried out by personnel of the 1004th MC, RMFB 10, with support from the 1403rd-A MC, RMFB 14-A, 1003rd MC, Tactical Support Company (TSC), RMFB 10, Bukidnon Provincial Intelligence Unit (PIU), and the Bukidnon Provincial Intelligence Team (PIT), Regional Intelligence Unit (RIU) 10.
Authorities identified the surrenderers only by their aliases “Mama,” a 26-year-old single farmer, and “Maria,” a 27-year-old single farmer. Both are residents of Talakag, Bukidnon and were listed as Non-Periodic Status Report (Non-PSR) former members of Platoon Fury under the Sub-Regional Committee 5 of the North Central Mindanao Regional Committee (NCMRC).
As part of their surrender, alias “Mama” voluntarily handed over one caliber .45 pistol along with two live caliber .45 rounds, while alias “Maria” surrendered one improvised shotgun and two live 12-gauge shotgun shells.
Police records revealed that the two women served as food suppliers for the armed group from 2016 until 2022. Authorities said they decided to abandon the armed movement after witnessing the gradual weakening of the organization and learning that many of their relatives had already surrendered to the government.
Their decision to return to the fold of the law reflects what authorities described as the diminishing influence of communist insurgent groups in parts of Bukidnon, where sustained security operations and community-based interventions continue to encourage former members to reintegrate into society.
Following their surrender, the two former CTG members were placed under the custody of the 1004th MC, RMFB 10, where they will undergo custodial debriefing, individual profiling, and other procedures necessary for their proper disposition. The surrendered firearms have been secured for documentation and will undergo appropriate legal processing.
Police Regional Office-10 (PRO-10) Regional Director PBGEN Christopher N. Abrahano commended the operating units for the successful surrender, describing it as a testament to the effectiveness of the government’s peace and security initiatives.
“The voluntary surrender of these former CTG members reflects the effectiveness of our sustained security operations and community engagement efforts. We encourage those who remain in the armed movement to choose peace, return to the folds of the law, and take advantage of the government’s reintegration programs for a better future,” Abrahano said.
The regional police chief emphasized that the government’s strategy goes beyond law enforcement by combining intelligence-driven operations with community engagement and reintegration efforts aimed at providing former rebels with opportunities to rebuild their lives peacefully.
